One of the things I love about being in Israel is getting to know people from all over the world. It is truly a global place, and we interact with people from so many nations on a daily basis. This past week Zach's Hebrew teacher hosted an end-of-the-year dinner and party for his class in her home, and so we headed out to Mevaseret Zion (a Jerusalem suburb) to join everyone.
Not everyone in the class could make it, but represented in this picture alone are students from Italy, Colombia, China, South Korea, the U.S., Israel, France, and Mexico -- all in Israel learning Hebrew together! Pretty cool, and we had a fun night out. (When I say 'we' I particularly mean Charis, who of course was the center of attention; I'm pretty sure she got carried around by just about everyone before the night was over. :)
Another pretty amazing way we feel the impact of living in a global community is through our work. As I've mentioned before, we can't legally work in Israel on student visas, so we've certainly had to get creative as far as work goes. We've managed to secure a couple of part-time jobs between the two of us which are based in the U.S., Australia, the Philippines, and Italy. It's certainly pretty fascinating how 'small' our world is really starting to feel!
